Nakumatt launches IT switching system
By: Carole Kimutai

Retail supermarket chain, Nakumatt has moved to bolster its financial services offering with a KSh20m information technology switching system.

The switch integrated on the chain's Oracle Retail IT mainframe will enable Nakumatt to interconnect with leading local and international utility providers and banks.

As part of its growth plans, Nakumatt last year unveiled a financial services category currently showcased by the range of Nakumatt Visa credit cards.

Speaking during the launch of the Safaricom Advantage (post paid) bill payment solution, Nakumatt Holdings operations director, Thiagarajan Ramamurthy said the interconnection capacity will allow Nakumatt to seal bill payment agreements with local companies. “With the new switch and software, we are able to connect and share customer data with our partners from our tills enabling them to conveniently settle their bills or withdraw cash at our tills at any of our 19 branches in Kenya.”

Besides this particular bill payment option with Safaricom, Nakumatt customers are now able to access credit card services through our Nakumatt Visa Credit card managed by Barclaycard and an Equity Bank Cash back service at the till.

With the launch of the Safaricom Advantage payment solutions at Nakumatt tills, Safaricom Post Paid subscribers will now be in a position to settle their bills at the 19 Nakumatt branches countrywide.

Besides the bill payment option at the Nakumatt tills, Safaricom Advantage subscribers are also able to settle their bills at Safaricom Retail Centres, and at the Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA), Standard Chartered, Co-Op Bank branches or via Safaricom's M Pesa service.
