Tru Touch successfully facilitates Schering-Plough Roadshow
Issued by: Tru Touch Events

Tru Touch Events were awarded the tender to produce and implement the Schering-Plough Pharmacy Assistant Roadshow in April this year. The project consisted of five dinner and presentation evenings in different provinces around the country, with the emphasis being on nasal congestion.

Elize van der Merwe and Martine Sanderson, Directors Tru Touch Events, said that the roadshow was aimed at educating a large group of pharmacy assistants all over the country about nasal congestion and its effects on everyday life. The presentations where done by leading ENT specialists, who really brought to light the seriousness of distributing the correct medication for the right symptoms. The educating part of the event was then highlighted by a comedy component that made for a perfect combination of learning as well as having a fun-filled evening.

Some valuable tips for our readers from Dr Ray Friedman, ENT Specialist, Sandton Clinic:

  • Nasal congestion (blocked nose) - extremely common nasal symptom especially in children. Often referred to incorrectly by patients as “sinus”.
  • Occasional intermittent congestion - entirely normal and often the cause is obvious - cold, flu, smoke, always will settle after cause has gone.
  • If symptom recurs commonly, persists for more than 10 days or is associated with other symptoms, pain, temperature, mucky nasal discharge, swelling and others, then medical assistance may be required.
  • In one of commoner causes of nasal congestion, nasal allergy (hayfever in its simplest form), nasal congestion is the most worrisome symptom and is associated with significant quality of life consequences including poor scholastic outcomes. Management is reasonably simple. Major problem is the use of over-the-counter, mainly early generation antihistamines, that should be avoided.
  • NB: Please note that a general swimming pool in South Africa contains more pollen particles than what is outside in the air, so always note your symptoms after swimming.
