Spekko Rice joins South Africa's Thai community for the 2008 Grand Thai Festival

Spekko Rice was a very important part of this year's festival due to the fact that Spekko has recently introduced one of Thailand's leading rice brands, Royal Umbrella, into the SA market. The South African Thai community has taken this move very seriously and has seen it as welcomed support by an innovative local South African brand.

The festivities got underway with a welcome address from the Thai Embassy, followed by traditional Thai dancing... with all the formalities out of the way, visitors from all walks of life were left to explore the event and all the interesting stands, many staying well into the afternoon to enjoy the day and especially the delicious variety of food on offer! The Spekko Rice stand was hosted by Spekko's very own brand ambassador Yudhika Sujanani who together with Rebecca Nxumalo and the Spekko Rice marketing team intrigued visitors with interesting facts about the entire Spekko Rice range and especially the newly-launched Royal Umbrella variants. Visitors at the stand could even get some first-hand experience on how the Basmati rice is grown from the unique rice plant display that was a welcome contribution by the Thai Embassy!

As for the food on offer, only restaurants that are recognised as being traditionally Thai are allowed to have a presence at the festival and for 2008 these included Simply Asia, Thai Cafe, Thai Africa, Sai Thai and Ruan Thai. All restaurants at the festival cooked with Spekko's Royal Umbrella variants and also placed Spekko Rice brand information and product packs at their stores to inform all their customers exactly which rice was being used. Throughout the day there was a constant flow of hungry consumers between the Spekko Rice stand and the various restaurants!

The Thai Festival 2008 was an incredible success and almost one ton of Spekko Royal Umbrella Jasmine Rice was sold over the two days!
