International acclaim for Constantia Glen vintage

Constantia Glen's third vintage of its Sauvignon Blanc - the 2007 - has been handsomely rewarded by USA's Wine Spectator in the January tasting highlights.
Achieving a score of 91 points (outstanding; a wine of superior character and style), expert taster James Molesworth made the following tasting notes to the wine: “Elegant and pure, with really nice cut to the white asparagus, fleur de sel and lime notes. The long, chiseled finish is very steely. A very precise, bony style. This winery is quietly on the rise. Drink now through 2010.”

This 91 point score follows the 90 points that the 2006 vintage previously achieved in Wine Spectator, having also garnered a Gold medal at the International Wine Challenge, where over 9000 wines compete. Locally, the Platter guide to South African wines has rated every vintage of the wine with a consistent 4½ out of 5 stars.

Says co-owner Gus Allen: “We are thrilled by this recognition. Our Sauvignon Blanc definitely showcases the intense minerality that Constantia whites are famous for. We continue to work meticulously in the vineyard and cellar to properly showcase these fine vineyards.”

Production of this wine is limited, with strong demand from select local and international restaurants. It is also sold through boutique wine retailers. The 2008 vintage of Constantia Glen Sauvignon Blanc is already sold out, while June 2009 sees the eagerly awaited release of the first vintage of the cellar's red blend.
